Ellen,
My name is Fredrick McBride and I am originally from Eupora Mississippi. My mother, Ardie McBride, and I are looking to publish a cookbook and would like to get some tips from you as we pursue our business venture.
While growing up, my mother has been cooking for all of the family occasions as well as preparing special baking orders. It has been recent that we decided that it would be a good idea to try to market some of her natural talent. I thought that a good start would be a book and then possible venture from there.
Would you be willing to possibly give me some guidance on what to do or maybe some things that you would have done differently? I can be reached at 713-408-1131 or via email Famcbrid@aol.com.
Best regards,
Fredrick McBride

I’m so glad that you’re looking to publish a cookbook. I have really enjoyed having mine!
I used G&R Publishing – http://www.gandrpublishing.com – to publish my book. They have alot of options and are easy to work with. They sent me a wonderful welcome packet and I love the cookbook.
My tips:
- Make it personable with stories about her cooking and times with family and friends.
- Really publicize it wherever you can. Get other websites to do “promos” about you (lemme know when it’s ready!), offer to do book signings, crafts fairs, news segments, etc. People will buy a great cookbook if they know it’s there.
- Get someone to do some graphics for you. My fiance, Ryan Wallace – http://www.maroonworks.com – did all of the design for my cookbook and I am so glad that it has photos and a personal touch. This costs a little more but personally I think it’s worth it.
Have fun! Let me know if you have any other questions!
