Faux “Italian Cheesy Bread”

Faux “Italian Cheesy Bread”

Ryan and I love Little Caesar’s cheesy bread but, well, it’s a strain both on our pocketbook and our waistline to order those very often. So, after doing some research and trying it out, I’ve developed the following recipe for my own version of Italian Cheesy Bread. It’s not “healthy” but is a much healthier option than the prepared one – and much cheaper to make at home as well.

Crust:

1 tablespoon dry yeast
1/4 cup warm water (105-115 degrees)
1 teaspoon sugar
2 cups flour (white or wheat)
1 teaspoon salt
1 tablespoon vegetable oil
1/2 to 3/4 cup milk
About 1/2 cup flour (if needed)
Dissolve yeast and sugar in warm water in a large bowl. Let stand 5 minutes.
Mix in flour, salt, and oil. Add enough milk to make a soft dough. Cover with a cloth and let rise 15 minutes.
Turn dough onto kneading board and work in more flour if dough is too sticky, kneading about 10 times on floured surface. Pat dough evenly onto a pizza stone or baking sheet.

Topping:
1/4 cup fat-free Italian salad dressing
1/8 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon garlic powder
1/4 teaspoon ground oregano
1/4 teaspoon dried thyme
1/4 teaspoon dried basil
Dash pepper
1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese
1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese

Preheat oven to 450 degrees. Use basting brush to spread salad dressing over crust. Combine seasonings and sprinkle over top. Top with cheesesCombine 5. Combine the seasonings; sprinkle over top. Sprinkle with cheeses.

Bake for 12-18 minutes or until golden brown.
