Brain Power for School

Brain Power for School

With school beginning again it’s important that we eat foods that will improve our brain functioning. Research shows that eating plenty of fruits and vegetables every day provides important chemicals to keep our brain healthy and strong. Recommendations are for us to eat 5-9 servings of fruits and vegetables each day and that those fruits and vegetables should be all different colors so we’ll get in all the “subgroups” of these foods.

Phytochemicals are compounds in plants that we find in many fruits and vegetables. They can help prevent certain disorders and may affect memory. Phytochemicals are found in blueberries, strawberries, spinach, and other fruits and vegetables.

Right now, we don’t even know what compounds might be in fruits and vegetables that provide these benefits but what we do know is that eating fruits and vegetables every day provides lots of healthy benefits, such as preventing macular degeneration, decreasing cancer risk, and increasing brain power.

So load up your grocery cart this week with fruits and vegetables and get your brain ready for school.
