Fruits, Veggies, & Weight

Fruits & VeggiesYou’ve probably heard that fruits and vegetables can decrease your risk of developing heart disease and cancer, but now studies are showing a correlation between fruit and vegetable intake and weight loss. In a study, one group of people were told to eat a low-fat diet while the other group was told to eat a low-fat diet and as many fruits and vegetables as they wanted. In the end, the group that ate a low-fat diet with fruits and vegetables lost more weight than the other group.
The hypothesis is that this weight loss is due to consuming more nutrient dense foods and less empty calories. Fruits and vegetables offer alot of bulk, vitamins, and minerals with only a few calories whereas the same “weight” in junk food offers many more calories. Research shows that women often eat about 3 pounds of food each day so choose 3 pounds of healthy foods with lots of fruits and vegetables!
