I love wearing my pedometer. It helps me keep track of how many steps I’m taking throughout the day. It’s also an incentive to get out and walk since I know I’ll have to look at that number at night to see how well I’ve done during the day. I found some really helpful tips from Bayer on how to get in more steps and added a few of my own (next week: At Work):
On the Town:
Avoid elevators – try the stairs instead
Return your grocery cart to the store
Walk the escalator, don’t ride
Walk, don’t drive, for trips less than one mile
Walk at the airport while waiting for your plane and avoid the people movers
Avoid the drive-through. Instead, walk inside
Hike some of your local trails
Take a walk while your kids are playing sports
Plan active weekends (longer walks, scenic hikes, playing in the park)
Play golf without an electric cart
Take a walk and pick up litter for your neighborhood or in a park
