If you love nuts, try adding a few pistachios into your daily diet. Studies show pistachios, which contain healthy monounsaturated fats, have a relaxing effect on blood vessels which can help lower blood pressure.
A Study was done by researchers at Penn State to determine whether or not pistachios had an effect on blood pressure. The subjects were young men who were at risk of developing high blood pressure. The men were put on heart healthy diets with or without pistachios. After four weeks, the group eating 1.5 ounces or more of pistachios per day lowered their systolic blood pressure number (the top number) by nearly 5 points & this group showed relaxation of the arteries, reducing the heart’s overall work load even more.
Eaten in moderation, all nuts have been shown to lower your risk of heart disease & heart attack. Another study showed that people who ate 5 or more ounces of nuts each week had 1/3 fewer heart attacks than those who rarely ate nuts.
