Here’s what Kate, a dietetic intern from Seattle, said about last week’s “Sweet News” on Stevia: “Because it is plant based, the aftertaste is probably something that is beneficial to our health (like bitters). I usually recommend that people start by mixing sugar and stevia powder, or using Stevia Clear (not the brown liquid) for drinks. They can gradually switch to Stevia. Some people may not get used to the taste, but those who don’t have problems with foods like broccoli, should do so. I’m a Stevia proponent. But I still caution people that taking sweets in excess (any form, “natural” or artificial) is not a good idea. In other words, no substitute or artificial sweeteners are license to overindulge. Promoting a taste for sweet foods generally distorts our taste for healthy foods like dark green leafy vegetables and other flavors.”

This is very interesting – thanks for sharing!
