What Does That Expiration Date Really Mean?

I often wonder – “is this milk OK, even though the date on the carton was yesterday?” I remember learning in school the difference between an expiration date and a pull date. An example of this would be milk – no store should sell milk past its pull date (the date on the carton) because the milk will expire 1 week from the date on the carton and we can’t necessarily guarantee we’ll drink it in 1 week. Many products are the same way. Thankfully, with milk and most meats you can tell when they are expired but some products can be trickier.
